Animal Shelter Coalition for El Dorado County

OUR MISSION
To provide an efficient means for residents and businesses to stay informed about and voice their support for the greatly needed Western Slope Animal Shelter.

OUR GOAL
To see an approximately 18,000 square foot Western Slope Animal shelter constructed on the property purchased by the county for that purpose, and all the Western Slope Animal Services operations consolidated on the site.

WHY WE'RE HERE
To demonstrate that a broad cross section of residents and businesses believe that moving forward with the Western Slope Animal Shelter at the El Dorado "Y" is the right thing to do, and to respectfully encourage our Board of Supervisors to finally build this shelter.

The Animal Shelter Coalition formed June 1, 2010, to increase awareness about and support for completing the permanent Western Slope Animal Shelter.  With property purchased, a design done and appropriations set aside, the project had been on hold since early 2009, while shelter operations remained in inadequaqte temporary facilities.

In the weeks leading up to the Board of Supervisor's meeting, hundreds joined this coalition, spoke up for the animals and the community and moved us forward.  We thank you for communicating with decision makers, circulating petitions, and attending Board Meetings.  The Board's action provided that the site improvements (Phase 1 of the construction) will get underway in the Fall of 2010.  While no work was initiated by February, 2011, we are now informed that Phase 1 will begin this summer (2011).
