May 24, 2013: Yesterday the County Planning Commission voted to find the purchase of the Capitol Avenue (Diamond Springs) animal shelter site consistent with the County's General Plan. A few neighbors raised concerns and we spoke in support. We will participate in an upcoming meeting with neighbors of the site, to introduce the project, answer questions and demonstrate how a modern, safe, healthy animal shelter will indeed be a good neighbor. Following the Board of Supervisors' approval, in December 2012, of the Purchase and Sales Agreement, interior space planning, lot split negotiations, and CEQA review commenced. We hope to see a close of escrow in July, followed by final design work and - dare we say it - construction. Thank you for your support of this essential project and for staying informed and involved. Your input continues to be a critical element in our progress. Check out our submittal - Essential Animal Functions for priorities that must be retained in a new design for a new site. Check out our position on the major change in direction for the project - We support the change, but the established Shelter needs remain. March 23, 2012 Update: See our recap of the 3/20/12 Board Meeting for the summary of the major change to the project.
