We are pleased to announce that, on July 20, 2010, the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors, in a 3-2 vote (Briggs, Knight and Santiago approving) acted to move forward with the permanent animal shelter. The Animal Shelter Coalition formed June 1, 2010, to increase awareness about and support for completing the permanent Western Slope Animal Shelter. With property purchased, a design done and appropriations set aside, the project had been on hold since early 2009, while shelter operations remained in inadequate temporary facilities. In the weeks leading up to the Supervisors Meeting, hundreds joined this Coalition, spoke up for the animals and the community and moved us forward. We thank you for communicating with decision makers, circulating petitions, and attending Board Meetings. The Board's action provides that the site improvements will get underway this Fall.
